Donald McNichol Sutherland CC is a Canadian actor whose film career spans over six decades.
Throughout his career, he has been nominated for nine Golden Globe Awards and won two for his performances in the television films Citizen X and Path to War.

His first marriage was to Lois May Hardwick, from 1959 to 1966. After their divorce, he married Shirley Douglas, the daughter of Canadian social democratic politician, Tommy Douglas.
They welcomed twins during their marriage; Kiefer and Rachel. Kiefer, like his father, is also an actor best known for his starring role as Jack Bauer in the Fox drama series 24.
After his divorce from Douglas in 1970, he married French Canadian actress Francine Racette in 1972. They had three sons named Rossif Sutherland, Angus Redford Sutherland, and Roeg Sutherland. All his sons were named after directors Sutherland has worked with.
Rossif and Angus Redford, like their older half-brother, also followed in their father’s footsteps as an actor.
